On February 7, 2025, Imperial County hosted a press conference to unveil key updates on the Lithium Valley Specific Plan. Officials and stakeholders shared insights on progress, investment opportunities, and the region’s role in powering the clean energy transition.

Overview of the Plan: The Lithium Valley Specific Plan would serve as the land use and zoning regulations on the southeastern side of the Salton Sea. The proposed land use designations include Green Industrial (e.g. geothermal energy, lithium/mineral extraction), manufacturing (e.g. lithium batteries), logistics, renewables, community opportunity areas, solar, playa restoration, floodplains, and conservation.
Comments: The County is referring the draft Lithium Valley Specific Plan to Citizens, California Native American Indian tribes, public agencies, public utility companies, water suppliers. and civic, education, and other community groups identified in Government Code Section 65352. Comments will be accepted in writing only, by submitting comments at the County of Imperial website (www.imperialcounty.org/lvsp), Planning and Development Services Department (801 Main Street El Centro, CA 92243,) or at one of the County hosted workshops. Information regarding the County hosted workshops will be posted on this site and announced during Count of Imperial Board of Supervisor meetings. One workshop will be hosted in English, and one will be hosted in Spanish. Witten comments must be received by March 25, 2025, at 5:00pm PST. The County will review any comments received up to that time, however, formal responses will not be provided.
Please note that the County has not yet completed the Programmatic Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR), and any correspondence received prior to the issuance of the Notice of Availability/Notice of Completion shall not be considered a comment on the Programmatic Draft Environmental Impact Report.
