Press Release: Board Meeting Summary 10.02.24

On Tuesday, October 1st, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors held their regular meeting in the Board Chambers at the County Administration Center in El Centro. The following are highlights of the meeting:

The Board of Supervisors presented a resolution honoring Adolfo Estrada for his retirement after 25 years of dedicated service to the County of Imperial and the Behavioral Health Services, recognizing his significant contributions to improving mental health services. The Board of Supervisors proclaimed the week of October 6th through 12th, 2024, as “Fire Prevention Week,” emphasizing the importance of fire safety awareness and prevention measures in the community. [Photo attached: Board with Sparky and Fire Chief David Lantzer]

The Board of Supervisors proclaimed the month of October 2024 as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” highlighting the need for awareness and support for victims of domestic violence in the community. [Photo attached: Board with WomenHaven]

The Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the Vega 6 Solar Energy Storage (SES) Project, where they approved several key resolutions. The board approved the proposed project which consists of an 80-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) energy generation project with an integrated battery storage system not to exceed 160 MW’s. The construction of the project has the potential to create up to 250 jobs. The Board also approved a Public Benefit Agreement to provide for a concentrated and coordinated effort to maximize the benefits of the project to the Imperial County community.

The Board of Supervisors approved a Professional Services Agreement with Reps 4 Vets for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 in the amount of $184,700, including benefits, to support programs and services for veterans in the community.

The Board of Supervisors adjourned and convened as the Air Pollution Control Board. They took action on two Funding Agreements with Calexico Unified School District: one for the Kennedy Gardens Elementary School Project—Paving Project, in an amount not to exceed $206,400, and another for the High School Fire Lane Project, in an amount not to exceed $861,600, both as requested by Belen Leon-Lopez, Air Pollution Control Officer. These agreements will enhance safety and accessibility for students, improve infrastructure, and promote environmental health in the community.

Within the consent calendar, the board approved:

A resolution to establish the tax levies for the County of Imperial for the Fiscal Year 2024-2025, generating essential revenue for public safety, healthcare, and infrastructure maintenance while promoting budget stability and community well-being.
